Terms of service

Last updated October 31, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Preferent (“we”, “us”) about your use of the Preferent website, your account, and the Preferent MCP server. By creating an account or using Preferent, you accept these terms and the privacy policy.

Who can use Preferent

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission. Each account belongs to one person. Give a working email address, keep your password and API tokens private, and tell us at security@preferent.ai if someone else uses your account.

The service

Preferent keeps a style guide of how you want AI to write, offers a public catalog of habits people dislike in AI replies, and gives your style guide to the AI apps you connect. Preferent is free today. It is new software, and we may change, limit, or stop any feature. We tell you ahead of time when a change removes something you use, when we can.

Your content

You own the text you add to your style guide, including your marks, rewrites, habits, and preferences. You give Preferent permission to store, copy, process, and show that text to you and to the apps you connect, only to run Preferent and to produce the de-identified aggregate statistics that the privacy policy describes. Those statistics contain none of your text. The permission ends when you delete the text or your account, except for copies in backups until they expire.

Catalog suggestions

When you agree to send a mark to the shared catalog, you give Preferent a permanent, worldwide, royalty-free permission to use, edit, and publish that text in the Preferent catalog and its exports, without credit. Send only text you have the right to share, and leave out other people’s private information. Admins decide which suggestions enter the catalog.

Connected apps

You decide which apps to connect. An app you allow can read your style guide, and with write access it can change it. The app’s own terms govern the app, and Preferent is not responsible for what an app does with your style guide or whether an AI model follows it. You can disconnect an app or revoke an API token on your account page at any time.

Acceptable use

Do not:

  • break the law, or use Preferent to harm, harass, or deceive people;
  • try to reach another person’s account or data, or test our security without permission;
  • get around rate limits, or overload the service with automated requests;
  • register an OAuth client that pretends to be another company’s app;
  • upload malware, or text that infringes someone else’s rights;
  • resell or rent access to Preferent.

You may use the catalog and the exports of your own style guide in your own AI tools, projects, and repositories.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time on your account page. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or when the law requires it. We tell you why, unless the law or the safety of others prevents it.

Disclaimer

Preferent is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or free of errors, or that any AI app will follow your style guide.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Preferent is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim about Preferent is limited to 100 US dollars. Some places do not allow these limits, and in those places they apply only as far as the law allows.

Changes to these terms

When we change these terms, we update the date at the top of the page. For a change that affects your rights, we tell you by email or on the site before it takes effect. If you keep using Preferent after that, the new terms apply.
